A DENHOLME woman's heroic efforts to help save a bleeding man have been recognised in her community.

Bethany Moorby's quick response to come to the aid of man who had suffered a burst vein in his leg has been widely praised around the community.

Bethany, of Hill Crest Road, Denholme, had got up and was letting her dog out at around 7am on Thursday when she heard shouts from a man nearby.

"I could hear shouting when I let my dog out of my house," said Bethany.

"I couldn't see him because he doesn't live on my street and he lives across the main road through the village.

"When I got to his house I could see him sitting on his front doorstep.

"I saw a lot of blood and he said 'help, I'm dying'.

"Luckily he made it to his front door.

"He didn't have a landline and his mobile wasn't topped up, so he had no way of calling for help.

"I rang the ambulance service as soon as I got there and we went inside and I applied pressure to his leg with a towel.

"He had a blood clot in his leg and the vein burst, which is why there was blood squirting out."

She said the ambulance came and took the man to hospital.

Bethany's reassuring presence to provide help in a time of need was very much appreciated by the man.

"He was so grateful for what I had done, bless him," "said Bethany. "The moment he saw me come to help he kind of relaxed.

"Although he was not a neighbour who I see every day, he's a man who is so well loved around the village.

"He was back home on Friday and I went to see him."

Bethany's efforts to help the man were posted on the Denholme Neighbourhood Watch Facebook group.

"My lovely neighbour, bless her, put something in the Facebook group.

An excerpt of the post read: "Well done to my amazing neighbour Bethany Moorby who this morning went beyond Good Samaritan and probably saved someone's life."

Bethany's cousin, Brooke Williams, also of Denholme, saw the post in the Facebook group and she rang Bethany.

"I had to call her to see what had happened," said Brooke. "She didn't hesitate and went straight out of her house.

"She's definitely done a really good thing. Bethany's so lovely and deserves credit for what's she done."

Brooke said that Bethany's heroism "has really captured the heart of Denholme community".

"People on the Denholme Neighbourhood Watch group have talked about how much of a good job she's done.

One person posted: "Loving the community spirit and support. You are truly amazing. This is why I love Denholme.

Another said: "Well done your kindness has saved his life."

Brooke also posted: "Bethany Moorby you really are a superstar. You always go out of your way for others without a second thought."

Bethany herself has been humbled by the kind words.

She said: "Everybody's been really thankful because he's so well liked in the village.

"They've all been so lovely, but I don't see it as something special. It's just something that everybody would do."

Bethany added that some people in the village and "trying to sort out a phone" for the man.
