PEOPLE have been invited to have their photograph taken at one of the Bradford district's tourist hot spots for a new project.

Phil Jackson, a Bradford-based photographer, is looking for people to have their picture taken by him at Shipley Glen for his project; In Common.

He is part of Aspect Collective, a group of photographers who have teamed up to focus on post-Brexit Britain and capture what life is like at the moment.

Each member of the collective will develop their own response to this unusual time, producing work in their own way and with their own style and approach.

The completed works of each member will form part of an exhibition or a publication that is yet to be finalised.

Mr Jackson is particularly concerned around the apparent divisions he sees in the community that result in polarisation, distrust, anger and hatred.

His aim is to try to break down these divisions and bring people together by demonstrating with his photography, that people are connected and have common ground in nature.

He wants to use Shipley Glen as his backdrop, a place he sees as common ground and that is known and loved by many Bradfordians and has been for more than 150 years.

As a child, he remembers jumping over the rocks and exploring the nooks and crannies in the valley below.

There is no charge for those who wish to have their photo taken on Shipley Glen for the project.

Mr Jackson said: "As a kid, I remember visiting Shipley Glen many times and loving it."

"I remember the little funfair and the amazing tramway that brought such a magical experience to everyone who visited there and that still does.

"I took my kids when they were little too. Everyone came here, it was a place to escape to and reconnect with nature for thousands of local people.

"This is a special place and was a kind of escape for many from their working lives.

Everybody is different but I want to take their picture in the same place. Shipley Glen is the perfect spot

"This location seemed perfect to demonstrate my idea of our commonality and how we can still be who we are within that."

Mr Jackson wants to highlight in his work everyone's common connection with nature as a way to demonstrate the common ground between everyone.

He added: “I see and feel a lot of ‘us and them’ in people’s attitudes in everything these days, not just over the issue of Brexit.

"Rather than look to blame or separate, I’d rather look for what we have in common and what can bring us together.

"To me, that’s all summed up in how nature works in harmony. Maybe we can take a leaf out of nature’s book. After all, we can’t escape the fact that we are actually part of nature.”

Mr Jackson is looking for Bradfordians from all parts of the community to feature in his pictures.

He said: "I want to show that everyone is unique but we all share the thing that’s most important in this world - nature.”
