A LOCAL supermarket manager and resident have reacted to the massive fire in BD7 by saying it sounded like 'something had exploded'.

It is understood the fire has damaged the big warehouse which is in the middle of Woodhead Road going around the corner onto Summerville Road.

A police cordon has been placed in that particular area.

Abdul Khan, manager of Al-Halal, which is situated nextdoor to the building in flames, has had to close his store today.

He said: “It’s very upsetting.”

“It’s a big disruption for the business.

“The business is closed today. It certainly is a lot of inconvenience.

“The fire is contained to the warehouse. The supermarket is ok, it is not affected."

Mohammed Amin, of Rothesay Terrace, who was awoken by explosions from the fire, said: “I heard bang bang and looked out the window to see the big flames.

“It sounded like an oil drum or something exploding. It was really bad.

“It was a bloody big fire. We were told not to go out and shut your doors.”
