FIFTY six volunteers hours were used to rescue a 58-year-old female walker who had fallen and gashed her knee while on Ingleborough at the weekend.

The incident occurred on Saturday, May 15, on the path across the head of The Allotment, from Simon Fell Breast to Sulber Nick.

The call at 1.12pm was originally sent to Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team but they transferred the call to Clapham Cave Rescue Organisation as soon as the location was clarified.

The team’ s Honda Pioneer was driven from near Clapham almost to the patient, while two Land Rovers, with more members, went via Crummackdale to the Nick Pot area.

First members on scene assessed the patient and put her into an insulated casualty bag, although her companions had made good use of the lightweight group shelter they were carrying as shared group equipment.

Other rescue equipment was taken from the Land Rovers and, once her leg was properly immobilised, she was stretchered down to one of the Land Rovers. This carried her off the hill to meet more of her companions who took her to a hospital near home to have the wound treated.

The incident was the 17th attended this year by the CRO.
