MORRISONS has invested more than £16 million in sprucing up its cafés ready for reopening for sit-in diners on Monday.

The supermarket giant has pumped money into updating the decor and increasing coronavirus security measures across all 406 of its cafés.

It comes as restaurants, pubs and many other leisure and entertainment venues are officially able to welcome customers back indoors from May 17.

The menu at the Morrisons cafés has also been refreshed.

Classics, such as the Full Breakfast remain, but have been joined by highlights new editions including, a Fish Goujon Sandwich and a Veggie Burger.

Many diners visit the cafés on a regular basis and they form an important part of their communities.

Morrisons has introduced an Order and Pay app, so diners can order from their tables, and screens have been installed around tables to ensure customers feel safe to return.

The improvement to the decor has included a fresh lick of paint at all of the supermarket's cafés and new outdoor furniture being installed at 136 them.

The crockery used to serve the food has also been updated and the old range will be rehomed by each store’s Community Champion.

Ali Lyons, Head of Cafés at Morrisons, said: “We’ve put a lot of effort and investment into welcoming our customers back in a safe environment.

"We are so excited for them to try our brand new menu which is made from Morrisons products and then freshly prepared by our café colleagues.

"Our new ‘Order & Pay’ app will also make it easier for customers to order directly from their booth and have the food delivered straight to their table.”

Morrisons will also open its 93 Barista bars from Monday as well.
