A BRADFORD TV doctor says the Indian Covid variant are concerning, adding more local lockdowns may be imposed in the UK.
Dr Amir Khan says while the Indian variant is more transmissible, there is no evidence available to say it evades the vaccine and more surge testing is taking place in areas where it has been detected in the UK.
Bradford's public health chief yesterday confirmed a case of the Indian Covid-19 variant has been detected in the Bradford district this week.
Bradford has been "working closely" with Public Health England and NHS Test and Trace since an isolated case was detected.

He added more local lockdowns in UK towns and cities may be imposed in the future, which Prime Minister Boris Johnson has hinted at.
Speaking on today’s Good Morning Britain, Dr Amir said: “It is concerning. Over 1,300 cases, more than double from last week.
“It is more transmissible. It’s about getting the population vaccinated. They are getting people surge tested in these areas. Engaging the community to get vaccination rates up.
“I do think it might be coming for local lockdowns, for areas like Bolton. Key here is getting people to the restrictions right now.”
