FIVE people were injured as violence flared on a Bradford street on Thursday and residents reported a scene of "carnage."

Onlookers reported seeing multiple people being put in ambulances after the disturbance on Hastings Street, in the Marshfields area of the city.

A huge cordon was put in place while officers investigated.

At around 8pm, police issued a statement that said: "Police were called to reports of an ongoing disturbance on Hastings Street, Bradford at 3.20pm on Thursday.

"Enquiries into the incident currently remain ongoing. Five people were injured but none of the injuries are life threatening or life changing. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody.

"We believe that all of those involved were known to one another.

"Two police scenes currently remain in place and officers are carrying out high visibility patrols in the area."

Chief Inspector Daniel Ware from Bradford District said: “I appreciate this incident may have caused concern in the local community but we have increased the number of officers in the area as our enquiries continue. I would appeal directly to anyone who saw what happened to get in contact.”

One resident who didn’t want to be named said she saw three males taken away in an ambulance. She said one was an older man who had “a lot of blood” on the back of his white gown.

She said: “It’s worrying. We came back and it was just carnage, there was coppers everywhere."
