AN intrepid Bingley-based fundraiser will be given a Civic welcome tomorrow when he completes his walking challenge in aid of two armed forces charities.

Jeffrey Long, who turns 90 later this year, set off from Bradford City Hall on March 10, to walk 190 miles in aid of The Royal British Legion (RBL) and Support Our Paras, The Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces Charity.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Doreen Lee, will greet Mr Long tomorrow on his return from his trek.

He has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities through a number of walking challenges.

The fundraising theme of 190 miles represents 100 miles walked to raise funds for the Royal British Legion, as they celebrate the centenary of their formation tomorrow.

The other 90 miles represents his 90 years of life and this money will go to support the Parachute Regt.

Lord Mayor of Bradford said: "It is a pleasure to greet Jeffrey on his return from his walk.

“He has managed to combine his love of walking and keeping active with raising money for some great causes.

“It is also our chance to celebrate 100 years of support for the Royal British Legion and, most importantly, 100 years of support to those who have served with the nation's Armed Forces.”
