NEW industrial units could be built at a vacant section of the Black Dyke Mill site in Queensbury.

A new planning application submitted to Bradford Council this week seeks permission for four new units at the North West of the site of the Grade II listed mill.

Once constructed the units would create 565 square metres of new business space on the sprawling site.

Currently that area of land has just a garage and shipping container on it.

The application, by the Lowry Partnership, says: “It is believed that the simple styling of the new units will not detract from the appearance of the listed building surrounding.”

Queensbury homes approved after Councillors satisfied with layout

Black Dyke Mills dates back to the 1840s, and was built for the fabric trade.

It was once one of the biggest employers in the area, and led the formation of the Black Dyke Band, one of the world’s most acclaimed brass bands.

It is currently home to a number of businesses , and the Black Dyke Mills Heritage venue.

As well as a planning application, a listed building application has also been submitted to Bradford Council.

A decision on both applications is expected next month.
