The Telegraph & Argus has opened this online book of condolence following the sad death of a woman in a hit and run crash in Bradford.

Police were called to the scene, on Lonsdale Street, Barkerend, shortly before 3pm yesterday to reports of a collision involving a grey Citroen C1 and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a woman in her thirties, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car involved left the scene prior to officers attending, police said.

A 41-year-old man has subsequently been arrested and is currently in custody.

Chief Inspector Daniel Ware, of Bradford District, said: “A woman has lost her life and I would like to express my condolences to her family and friends. Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We understand that there were a number of people in the area at the time of this collision. I would urge anyone who has seen any part of this incident, or anyone who has dashcam footage, to please get in contact with us as a matter of urgency.”

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision, the manner of driving of the vehicle beforehand or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area. Information can be passed to West Yorkshire Police via 101 or online using 101 Live Chat, quoting log 1040 of 10/05.

A scene remains in place today.

Anyone who would like to pay tribute or offer their condolences is invited to leave a message on this page.

Share your tribute hereIt was Allah's will to take you away on the 27th Roza. My sis in law had just completed her Quran on the day of her death. You will always be loved and missed. And I will always remember you for the kind hearted good natured person you was.. Leaving behind your children and husband and a family who are utterly heartbroken but knowing you are at peace is what is keeping us going. Allah ni marzi (it was God's will) to take you away at such a young age and so suddenly. I will forever miss you my beautiful sister in law take care and rest in peace. We will meet again in sha Allah 💜
