SIX people have been summoned to court over the past month charged with fraud, ranging from selling fake cigarettes to stealing another person’s identity and even a charge of kidnap.

Of the six defendants, two have pleaded guilty to their crimes, while two have pleaded not guilty to the alleged offences and a further two have not yet entered a plea at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court.

One man, who faces jail for his offending, is Kirmanj Kareem, who also uses the name Morad Omer Saleh, who admitted 13 offences of selling good with false trademarks and in illegal packaging, namely cigarettes.

The 37-year-old, of Great Horton Road, admitted selling the cigarettes at his shop Bolton Road Mini Market, and by doing so avoided paying more than £30,000 in duty on the products in 2019.

During the hearing on April 27, he was told his offending was so serious he could face time behind bars, and his case has been sent to Bradford Crown Court for sentencing, with that hearing scheduled for May 18.

Also admitted his crimes was Patrik Nistor, 19, who pleaded guilty to fraud and also theft.

The teenager, of Parratt Row, Laisterdyke, admitted using a card belonging to someone else at Morrisons on July 19, 2020, to buy groceries. He also admitted theft on the same date of the groceries.

He had pleaded guilty on February 9 and was due to be sentenced on April 26, but the hearing had to be adjourned as an interpreter was required. It will now be heard on June 21.

Christopher Thornburn, 55, appeared at court on May 4 on a raft of fraud and theft offences related to alleged offences on October 18 and 31, 2020, and January 3, 2021.

Thornburn, of Nelson Street, Birstall, had pleaded not guilty to fraud on each occasion, by making false representations to make gains for himself, and also charges of theft in a hearing on February 12.

On October 18 it’s alleged he a cluster ring, on October 31 it’s alleged he stole a wedding ring, and on January 3 he is accused of stealing three Japanese figurines.

All the alleged offences occurred at the same address in St Matthew’s Road, Buttershaw, against the same woman.

Thornburn elected to have a summary trial which is due to take place today, so the case was adjourned and he was granted unconditional bail.

The other defendant who has denied their charges is Stacey Outlaw, of Wenborough Lane, Holme Wood, who pleaded not guilty to handling stolen goods – a stolen bank card – on March 7, and another charge of using the card to buy £133 worth of goods at Denbrook Filling Station in Tong Street.

At her hearing on May 5, the 33-year-old denied the offences, and has been bailed until the next hearing on January 27, 2022, with a condition to live and sleep at an address in Buttershaw every night until that date.

Summoned to court charged with kidnap was Sadiq Hashim Mansoor, 35, of Hollybank Gardens, Great Horton.

It’s alleged the 35-year-old unlawfully by force or fraud took or carried away a woman against her will on January 9.

It’s also alleged he breached bail conditions by contacting the woman between April 13 and 18, something he denies but was found to be proven.

Mansoor was remanded into custody on April 19 and is next due before the court on November 9 for his trial.

The final defendant who appeared on fraud charges was supposed to be Stephen Dale Tidswell, 55, or Nunbury House, Fearnville Drive, Laisterdyke.

He has been charged with committing fraud on January 26 at the Murco Service Station in Killinghall Road, Barkerend, by making false representation to make a gain of £24.70.

A warrant was issued for Tidswell’s arrest, as he failed to answer his bail by appearing at court on April 21.
