A MAN has been arrested after a female pedistrian was killed in a fatal collison on a road in Bradford this afternoon.

Police officers were called shortly before 3pm today (Monday, May 10) to reports of a collision involving a grey Citroen C1 and a pedestrian on Lonsdale Street in Barkerend.

The pedestrian, a woman in her thirties, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the car involved left the scene prior to police attendance.

A 41-year-old man has subsequently been arrested and is currently in custody.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Chief Inspector Daniel Ware, of Bradford District, said: “A woman has lost her life and I would like to express my condolences to her family and friends.

"Her family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

“We understand that there were a number of people in the area at the time of this collision.

"I would urge anyone who has seen any part of this incident, or anyone who has dashcam footage, to please get in contact with us as a matter of urgency.”

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed this collision, the manner of driving of the vehicle beforehand or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area.
