BRADFORD Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust had its patients in mind when it officially opened its new haematology and oncology unit at Eccleshill Community Hospital today.

Patient Ellen Allen, who has been attending the trust’s oncology clinic every two weeks since being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016, said: “The new Meadows Unit is absolutely lovely; really bright and cheerful and it will make a real difference.

"But the service is more than just its surroundings. It’s the team here who look after me that’s absolutely brilliant. Staff are so supportive and they make me feel part of their team.”

The trust’s Chief Executive, Mel Pickup, said: “A large, dedicated area has been totally transformed, fully re-decorated and renovated and specially designed with all the comforts of our patients in mind.

"This is really going to make a big difference for our patients coming to clinic and receiving these services.”

The whole area, which is called The Meadows Unit, has undergone a full renovation.
