MORE than half of over 50s who have received the Covid-19 vaccine in Bradford have had both doses, the latest NHS figures reveal.

In the data, 55 per cent of over 50s in the Bradford district who have had the Covid vaccine have received both doses and are fully protected from the virus.

As of May 2, 87.1 per cent of over 50s in the district have had their first dose, a 0.2 per cent rise from the week before, while the number getting their second dose has risen sharply by almost ten per cent to 47.9 per cent of all over 80s.

For the total population, 52.7 per cent of all adults have now had at least one dose – a one per cent rise from last week – while 24.3 per cent of adults have received their second dose – almost one in four.

Of those who have had their first vaccine, 46.2 per cent have now had both doses, with this number only getting higher every day.

Halfway through April the Covid vaccine programme was opened up to those aged 45 to 49, and as of May 2 64.4 per cent – almost two thirds – of this age group have received their first jab so far.

Across the UK, around 35 million people have received their first dose, and about 16 million of those are now fully vaccinated.

Bradford is still trailing behind the national average on vaccines – in the UK two thirds of adults have now received their first dose of the Covid jab, while 30 per cent have had both doses.

Across the district, the Shipley constituency continues to lead the way on vaccinations, with 92.7 per cent of all over 50s having had their first dose, and 56.6 per cent now fully vaccinated with both jabs.

Almost two thirds of all adults in Shipley have now had their first dose, with more than a third (34.9 per cent) fully jabbed, and 76.3 per cent of 45 to 49 year olds have had their first jab.

It is followed by Keighley, which also has more than 90 per cent of over 50s vaccinated, while central Bradford is still lagging behind.
