POLICE are appealing for information after a man had been knocked over by a vehicle and assaulted in Heaton.

Officers were called to reports of incident on Leylands Lane where a man had been knocked over by a vehicle, described as a black Volkswagen Touran minivan, and assaulted.

It is believed the vehicle travelled across the carriageway, through oncoming traffic and mounted the pavement before colliding with the pedestrian.

Two men then got out of the vehicle and assault the male pedestrian before fleeing the scene.

The man was taken to hospital with facial injuries not believed to be life threatening. The incident took place at just after 4.20pm on Friday, April 30.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested and remains in custody, a West Yorkshire Police spokesman said.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or anyone who may have recorded footage on a mobile phone or dash cam of the vehicle to contact police.
