ALMOST 20 per cent of all adults in the Bradford district have had both their Covid-19 vaccines and have full protection against the virus.

As of April 25, 19.9 per cent of all adults had received both doses of the Covid vaccine, while 51.7 have received at least one dose.

For the over 50s - the age group most vulnerable to death or serious illness from Covid-19 - 86.9 per cent in Bradford have had at least one dose, while 38.7 per cent have received both doses, more than a third of older people.

The over 80s are some of the most at risk people from Covid-19, and in Bradford 93.6 per cent have had at least one dose and 84.2 per cent have had both doses.

For 75 to 79 year olds, the first dose figure is 94.3 per cent, and second dose number is 81.8 per cent.

For 70 to 74 year olds, 92.6 per cent have had their first dose and 65.5 per cent have had their second dose.

For 65 to 69 year olds it is: 89.1 per cent first dose, 31.7 per cent second; for 60 to 64 year olds it is: 86.5 per cent first dose, 22.1 per cent second; 55 to 59 year olds: 83.8 per cent first dose, 18.1 per cent second; for 50 to 54 year olds: 78.1 per cent first dose, 15.4 per cent second.

Earlier this month the vaccine was opened up to people aged 45 and over, in Bradford 61.3 per cent have taken up that offer so far.

Across the UK, 64 per cent of adults have been vaccinated with at least one dose so far - more than 34 million people - and 26 per cent have had both doses, more than 14m people.

For the over 50s, around 90 per cent have now had at least one jab nationally, while about 40 per cent have had both doses.

Bradford is faring worse than the national figure in all areas, showing there is work to do across the district to up the vaccination figures.

The Shipley constituency continues to lead the way on vaccinations, with 92.6 per cent of over 50s having had one dose and 46.3 per cent fully protected. Almost two-thirds (64.8 per cent) of all adults have had at least one dose.

In Keighley, 90.5 per cent of over 50s have had one dose, with 42.7 per cent having had both doses; three in five adults in the area have had at least one dose.

Bradford South is third on the list, with 88 per cent of over 50s having had one dose, 36.8 per cent fully protected, and 55.2 per cent of all adults have had at least one dose.

In Bradford East, 82.5 per cent of over 50s have protection, and 34.1 per cent have full protection from Covid, while 44 per cent of all adults have had at least one jab.

Bradford West continues to trail behind in the rollout; 77.8 per cent of over 50s have had one jab, meaning more than one in five are still unprotected, while 30.5 per cent have had both doses, and only 38 per cent of all adults have had a dose of the Covid vaccine.

All over 40s are now eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine, and jabs can be booked by visiting the NHS Coronavirus website.
