THE West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has given credit to its team of on-call firefighters who played their part in extinguishing the Marsden Moor fire this week.
The fire service tweeted: "Our on-call firefighters played a vital role in tackling the large fire on Marsden Moor earlier this week."
In an effort to recruit more on-call firefighters, the fire service explained that on-call firefighters are skilled people from all walks of life who provide cover at on-call fire stations.
There are ten on-call fire stations across West Yorkshire and the staff are required to live and/or work within five minutes of the station.
Firefighters submit the hours they are available each week and respond to emergency calls as part of a team, working on the front line protecting their communities.
