POLICE have reminded people to only use the 999 line in an emergency after receiving a bizarre call.
West Yorkshire Police's Contact Management Centre often tweets about the calls it receives.
This has included, someone complaining about staff at McDonald's refusing to give them their nuggets, someone ringing to tell a joke and another person who asked if police had any tobacco for them.
The most recent example is case of family ties.
The caller rang the emergency line to ask if their relative was in jail.
The operator outlined that this is not a valid reason to ring 999 and that the non-emergency line, 101, should be used instead.
Even then, the operator might not be able to give any information anyway.
A spokesperson for the Contact Centre said: "Wanting to know if your relative is in custody is yet another example of a Not 999 call.
"101 is free to call and, if we can lawfully divulge any such information, that would be the number to enquire through."
