A BRADFORD man has been acquitted after facing a charge of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply.

Sean Coy, 42, of Gracey Lane, Buttershaw, was charged alongside County Durham man Jason Denton last September.

It came after police seized cocaine as part of an ongoing operation into the cross border transportation of drugs into County Durham.

The prosecution offered no evidence in relation to Coy, with a not guilty plea entered at Teesside Crown Court.

Appearing at court on Friday, Denton 37, of Lyne Road, Spennymoor, was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison.

A total of 17kg of drugs – worth more than £1.7million and believed to be the force’s largest ever drugs seizure - were found in a purpose-built hidden compartment within Denton’s Vauxhall Combo van.

Officers were assisted by colleagues at Nottinghamshire Police when the van was stopped on the A1.

He later pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply controlled drugs.

Detective Inspector Rob Pollard, of Durham Constabulary, said: “The team worked really hard to make sure these drugs were taken out of circulation so it is very satisfying to see justice served."
