EIGHT takeaways across the Bradford district have been handed bad food hygiene ratings in March.

The fast food outlets. received ratings of two or lower from the Food Standards Agency last month, signalling improvement is necessary in food handling, cleanliness of premises, or food safety management.

Any premises serving food receives a food hygiene rating, scored from zero to five, with five signalling very good standards, and zero showing urgent improvement is necessary.

These are the eight takeaways inspected during March that received a food hygiene rating of two or below.

Flamez, Alice Street, Keighley - 2 out of 5

Flamez was inspected on March 24, and while cleanliness and safety management were found to be 'generally satisfactory', hygienic food handling was deemed to require improvement. This includes preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage.

Flamez was previously open as Q's Munch, when it was also given a two rating.

Wok This Way, Browgate, Baildon - 2 out of 5

Inspected on March 20, food handling and safety management were deemed generally satisfactory, but improvement is necessary in cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building. This includes having an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control.

In its past five visits from the FSA dating back to 2014, Wok This Way has never had a rating higher than three.

Raja's, Bradford Road, Frizinghall - 2 out of 5

Visited on March 9, while food handling was deemed good and safety management generally satisfactory, the cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building require improvement.

The rating is a slight improvement from its last inspection in April 2019, when Raja's got a one rating.

Sizzler's, Crag Road, Shipley - 1 out of 5

The takeaway has been told major improvement is necessary. Improvement is necessary in the cleanliness of facilities and food safety management, but major improvement is needed on the hygienic handling of food.

It was visited on March 16, and this visit by the FSA found a significant fall in hygiene standards at the takeaway, as on the last visit in July 2019 it scored four.

Shan Madina Pizza Cottage, Bradford Road, Frizinghall - 1 out of 5

Visited on March 11, inspectors found major improvement is necessary in the cleanliness of facilities and in the management of food safety. Hygienic handling of food was deemed generally satisfactory.

No improvement has been made since the last visit by inspectors 12 months earlier, when it also got a one rating.

Rawal China Chopstix, Barkerend Road, Barkerend - 1 out of 5

Major improvement is necessary at this takeaway in its management of food safety, inspectors said after their visit on March 10. Improvement is also needed in the hygienic handling of food, but cleanliness of facilities is deemed to be generally satisfactory.

It is no improvement since the last review in January 2020, and a drop from its three rating in 2018.

Pizza Giardino, Bradford Road, Sandbeds - 1 out of 5

Major improvement is needed in the management of food safety, and improvement is needed in both cleanliness of facilities and the handling of food, the inspection found on March 9.

While food handling and safety management are deemed generally satisfactory, improvement is needed in the cleanliness of facilities, inspectors found on March 3.

The rating is a big drop from the previous inspection in April 2019 when the takeaway was given a four rating.

Many other shops, restaurants and takeaways across the Bradford district received positive food hygiene ratings during March.

Eight businesses received a five rating, one was given a four rating, and eight were given a score of three.
