At 4pm yesterday, 13 West Yorkshire fire engines, two from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service, specialist wildfire units from Todmorden, Holmfirth, Skelmanthorpe and Slaithwaite, and a helicopter were at the scene.
This work continued through the night and this morning with crews from Odsal, Shipley, Cleckheaton and Keighley all understood to be out there.
People have been warned to stay away from the area and off Marsden Moor.
It is thought the blaze was started accidentally so no arrests have been made.
However, the police are liaising with Kirklees Council about a possible breach of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), which bans the use of fires or barbecues in the area.
