SIGHTINGS of Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell have created a stir in rural Yorkshire in the past few days.

The actors are believed to be filming for the Mission: Impossible 7 and have been spotted in Pickering and near the village of Levisham.

Hollywood A-lister Cruise has been seen on set shooting scenes on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway with co-star Atwell, star of Captain America.

The 58-year-old, who was wearing a face mask as well as a navy blue roll-neck jumper, dark trousers and boots in between takes, was captured climbing onto the roof of a train carriage for a stunt scene.

Work on Paramount Pictures's Mission: Impossible 7 has been hit by delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, with filming in Italy last year in February brought to a halt as the situation worsened.

Cruise who plays Ethan Hunt in the movie series has been snapped by passers-by who have stumbled across the movie sets as well as by local and national media crews which have descended on the area.

Sarah Jones, who runsPear Tree House B&B and Holiday Cottage in Pickering, spotted the American actor while out walking.

The 58-year-old who was filmed on a train by a helicopter-based crew earlier this week posed for photographs with onlookers and fans during a break.

After a delay, filming restarted at locations including Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said in July that he had spoken to Cruise about how the production would be able to continue over the summer.

Earlier this month the film's release was delayed from November until May 2022 as coronavirus continued to disrupt international schedules, with Mission: Impossible 8, also co-starring Atwell, slated for release in 2023.

Matt O'Neill, North Yorkshire County Council's assistant director for growth, said: "It's not mission impossible to see why North Yorkshire has an enviable identity - one of the strongest of any English county.
"We are globally renowned for our market towns, stunning landscapes and coastline, our culture, hospitality and big welcome.

"It is a county like no other for its scale and variety and its international significance means it increasingly attracts cultural investment and film companies bringing A-list superstars like Tom Cruise to the county. "
