SUSPECTED Class A drugs and cannabis have been seized in a raid today as part of ongoing work to target street-level drug dealing.

Specialist officers from Kirklees Police and the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) executed a drugs search warrant on Wroe Street, Dewsbury, this morning following intelligence about drugs supply.

A 32-year-old man was arrested from an address on suspicion of offences including possession with intent to supply drugs. He remains in police custody.

A vehicle and property were also recovered by officers for forensic examination.

The operation was part of ongoing action to tackle drugs production and supply in the town, which has included the closure of a number of cannabis factories so far in 2021.

In February, officers from the Dewsbury NPT seized 602 plants from a factory on Daisy Hill in what was the ninth factory located and closed down in just eight weeks.

Insp Lee Baragwanath, of the Dewsbury & Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Following information from the local community, and some excellent proactive follow up work by police colleagues, officers executed a warrant today on Wroe Street, Dewsbury.

“A number of items have been seized, and a male arrested on suspicion of possession of drugs, with intent to supply.  A vehicle was later seized from outside the address and will not be released without it being legally insured and taxed.

“It will be disposed of in due course, should this not be completed.

“Following the warrant, our officers spoke with local residents and reassured them as to why we had attended in their neighbourhood and taken this action.

“We do thank residents for their support and continue to  ask anyone who has information about the supply of drugs in Dewsbury to contact the Dewsbury NPT team on 101, or the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
