HOUSEHOLDERS are being warned always to lock their doors – even if just leaving the property for a few moments.

The message from West Yorkshire Police follows an incident on Tuesday (April 20), when someone left the door of their home in Coronation Walk, Keighley, unlocked while they nipped to a shop.

Whilst the person was out, a burglar entered the house and stole a set of keys, a yellow metal ring and a wallet containing £75 in cash.

A police spokesman said: “There are many ways you can prevent your home being targeted by a burglar and it should be part of your daily routine.

“Making sure your property is secure doesn’t have to be too expensive or take-up too much of your time – it may just be a case of getting into the habit of using the security you already have.

“It’s really important that you have adequate levels of physical security on your doors and windows – and that your doors and windows are in good condition. It’s equally as important that you use the security you already have.”
