COUNCIL officers are being asked to assess an application for a late night refreshment licence at a Bradford tea shop.

The application, by Chaii Wali (Bradford) asks for permission to sell late hot and cold drinks and food at Chaii Wali in Little Horton Lane.

Chaii Wali, which opened in summer 2019, specialises in chaii tea. Originating in South Asia, this drink is made by boiling black tea in milk and water with a mixture of aromatic herbs and spices. The tea shop serves freshly made Desi tea, which is very popular in Karachi.

The beverage has taken off across the world, becoming a feature in many coffee and tea houses. Chai, as it is commonly spelled - tea shops can be seen in many town centres across the UK.

Chaii Wali also sells donuts, milk shakes Asian desserts, Asian biscuits and ice cream.

The application, made under the Licensing Act of 2003, is for a licence to trade every night from 11pm to 2am.

Bradford Council has also released details of a number of road closures across the district due to work by utility comoanies.

Water works proposed on or near Mayo Avenue (Westbound only), will mean the closure of a stretch of that road from a point outside number 116 Mayo Avenue to a point at the entrance to Morrisons, from 7pm until 9.30pm on Thursday April 29.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times. Alternative routes for traffic affected by the proposed order will be via Mayo Avenue (the unaffected section), Rooley Lane, Manchester Road, Odsal Interchange, Manchester Road and vice versa.

Water works are also the reason for the closure of Ebenezer Place, Great Horton, from its junction with Cross Lane to a point outside 4 Ebenezer Place from 7am until 9.30pm today.

Alternative routes for vehicular traffic affected by the proposed Order will be available via Ebenezer Place (the unaffected section), Crabtree Place, Crabtree Street, Cross Lane and vice versa. Access for people on foot will not be affected.

Gas works will necessitate the closure of length of Ashgrove in Bradford from its junction with Lower Ashgrove to its junction with Morley Street/Easby Road from 8am today until 6pm on Friday May 14.

Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the period of work. Alternative routes for vehicles affected will be available via Lower Ashgrove, Claremont Terrace, Morley Street and vice versa.

Water works on or near Cockin Lane in Clayton, will result in the closure of a length of Cockin Lane from a point outside Meadowcroft to a point outside Cross Lea Farm. The order, which came into force on April 26, will be in place until 6pm on Friday April 30.

Water works on or near Broadstone Way, Holme Wood, will mean the closure of Broadstone Way from its junction with Tong Street to a point outside 2 Broadstone Way from 7pm on Wednesday April 28 to 9.30pm on the same day. Pedestrians will still be able to use the route. Alternative routes for traffic affected by the order will be via Broadstone Way (the unaffected section), Cordingley Street, Joseph Street, Holme Lane, Tong Street and vice versa.
