Two brothers have each been jailed for five years after a shotgun was fired through a house window at an address in the Holme Wood area of Bradford.

John Doyle, 34, of Oddy Street, Tong, Bradford, and Dean Doyle, 39, of Carrbottom Road, Greengates, Bradford, were sentenced at Bradford Crown Court for possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

John Doyle pleaded guilty to that offence and to two charges of making a threat to kill the father and son whose property was targeted.

Dean Doyle was convicted of the firearm offence after a trial. He also admitted conspiracy to supply Class A drugs on December 3, 2017, and dangerous driving. He was jailed for a total of nine years.

Prosecutor Graham O’Sullivan said the brothers went to the address in the Holme Wood area shortly before 10.30am on April 10 last year.

They wore balaclavas and arrived in a stolen car.

Dean Doyle kicked the door and John Doyle discharged the gun through a front window.

On the way to the address John Doyle made a snapchat video threatening the man and his son and saying he wasn’t bothered if he got life for it.

The householders targeted had not co-operated with the police enquiry the court was told.

Mr O’Sullivan said the drugs charge arose when the police searched a hotel room and vehicle linked to Dean Doyle and seized about £1,000 worth of cocaine and £1,035 in cash.

Two women who were drug-running for him were yet to be sentenced, the court was told.

John Doyle had 29 previous convictions for 80 offences, including conspiracy to burgle, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and making a threat to kill.

Dean Doyle had 31 convictions for 79 offences, including three offences of dangerous driving, assault and threatening behaviour.

He was banned from driving for 40 months and until he takes an extended retest.

Allan Armbrister, John Doyle’s barrister, handed in a letter from him expressing his remorse and giving an explanation as to why the incident happened.

It was a feud that has to stop and he wants to bring it to a close, Mr Armbrister said.

John Doyle had been in custody since April 17 last year during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jeremy Hill-Baker said Dean Doyle’s criminal record was mainly for driving offences. It was not one of violence or drug dealing.

He did not carry the gun to the scene or fire it. There was no one there and both men fled immediately afterwards.

He did not play a leading role in the drugs conspiracy. There was someone above him in the organisation.

Dean Doyle was also plainly a drug user himself with wrappers found in the hotel room and his vehicle, Mr Hill-Baker said.

Judge Neil Davey QC said the firearm offence involved “significant planning and a visible weapon.”

The court heard that the gun had never been recovered.

Both brothers were jailed for five years for the firearm offence and Dean Doyle was imprisoned for four years to run consecutively for the drugs conspiracy.
