A COUNCILLOR has urged Calderdale Council to open up its Customer First advice centre in his town.
Centres have been closed to the public during the pandemic lockdowns but Coun Howard Blagbrough (Con, Brighouse) has asked a Cabinet member when the council will open up a Brighouse Customer First centre in the town again.
The service was based in Brighouse Civic Hall, which has been closed as part of the council’s Future Council plan to make savings Cabinet says are necessary for the council to balance its budget.
But Coun Blagbrough believes it is an important service and that it should be reinstated somewhere in the town.
“I am pushing for when we can see Customer First established as a physical centre,” he said.
Important to keep community group's interested' - meeting told
Coun Blagbrough, speaking at the questions to Cabinet section of the full meeting of Calderdale Council, said not everyone could use technology to make contact and there was a need for a face-to-face service in these challenging times.
Cabinet member for Public Services and Communities, Coun Jenny Lynn (Lab, Park) said the answer would depend on the Government’s road map out of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“But I assure you we are committed that there will be a Customer First in Brighouse and a number of options for locations are being considered,” she said.
