NEW speed limits of 20mph and 30mph are planned for part a major Bradford road.

Bradford Council has announced an order for the speed limit on the B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) in Wilsden from a point 192 metres east of its junction with Old Allen Road, to a point 26 metres south east of its junction with Bents Lane.

The move is to encourage appropriate vehicle speeds on the approach to, and through, the Lane Side hamlet.

It is also proposed to introduce a 20mph speed limit on the following lengths of carriageway within the immediate vicinity of the hamlet at Laneside:

* The whole of the adopted length of Station Road - from its junction with B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) for a distance of 770 meters in a south westerly direction.

* The section of Brown Lee Lane from its junction with B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) for a distance of 62 metres in a northerly direction

* The section of Old Allen Road from its junction with B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) for a distance of 110 metres in a southerly direction

The council says the proposed speed limits are intended to “help protect vulnerable road users, including children, pedestrians and cyclists, and decrease the risk of being injured in a collision and/or the resulting severity.”

Adds the council: “It is also considered that the proposed 20mph speed limits may have a positive effect on encouraging walking and cycling activity, as well as helping to reduce severance and enhance liveability.”

It is also proposed to introduce 30mph speed limits on the following lengths of carriageway: -

* B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) from a point 26 metres south east of its junction with Bents Lane, to a point 510 metres north west of its junction with Bents Lane

* Bents Lane - from its junction with B6144 Haworth Road (Lane Side) for a distance of 17 metres in a north westerly direction.

* Old Allen Road - from a point 110 metres south of its junction with B6144 Haworth Road (Laneside) for a distance of 385 metres in a southerly direction.

The speed limits are intended to act as ‘buffer zones’ between lengths of carriageway subject to exiting speed limits higher than 30mph, and the proposed 20mph speed limit lengths.
