TRAVELLERS have appeared on a Bradford rugby pitch, with more than 40 caravans setting up camp.

The vehicles have arrived on Odsal Green, just off Cleckheaton Road.

An onlooker - who wished to remain anonymous - believes there are at least 40 caravans on the rugby pitch, which is part of the playing fields.

There are also a pile of flat-screen TVs, resting up against one of the rugby posts.

The number plates on the caravans are registered to the Republic of Ireland, according to the onlooker.

They added: "There's quite a lot. There's Irish plates on the caravans.

"They're parked on the rugby field, there's quad bikes parked next to some of the caravans.

"They cover from the outside fence of Odsal Rugby Club down to the halfway line and the mid-point of the rugby field."

Another individual who spotted the caravans, but did not wish to be named, is concerned what it might mean for children who have rugby fixtures due to be played on the pitch this weekend.

They described the situation as "appalling".

They added: "So yet again travellers have turned up and settled themselves on Odsal Green, Cleckheaton Road, on the rubgy pitch, so I assume the kids won't be playing there this weekend."

The T&A has contacted Bradford Council for a comment.
