"QUICK-thinking" action from a takeaway owner stopped a fire from spreading, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue service said.

Crews were called out to reports of a fire at a takeaway in Commercial Street, Shipley, at around 10pm last night.

A Shipley Fire Station spokesman said: "Crews turned out, but the fire was out on arrival. The quick-thinking actions of the proprietor by closing the lid on the frying range stopped the fire from spreading."

Firefighters were at the scene for around 45 minutes and used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear smoke from the building.

No-one was injured.
