A HOUSING company has been granted permission to build a sheltered housing scheme on the former site of a methodist church.

Chartford Housing, a subsidiary of Bradford based Horton Housing, applied for planning permission for a 26 flat development on the Eccleshill Methodist Church site off Norman Lane last year.

The proposals also included office space and a residents' lounge and kitchen, and the application said the site would be staffed at all times, with a night warden provided.

The church shut in 2016 and has since been demolished.

Plans submitted to demolish century-old Eccleshill Methodist Church

Previous plans to build flats and two shops on the site were approved in 2016, but they development never materialised.

The latest application has now been approved by Bradford Council.

Officers said: "The proposed residential use of the site is not considered to give rise to any undue community safety implications.

"Occupants of the site will be vetted and placed by a Registered Social Landlord."
