A SALON owner has been slammed as "selfish and irresponsible" over her refusal to wear a face mask or PPE.

Sinead Quinn, owner of Quinn Blakey Hairdressing, hit out after she was visited by the Council.

Taking to Instagram, she said she was told she was "endangering" client's lives and that the "harassment is unreal".

Salon owner who refuses to wear face mask or PPE hits out over Council visit

In a series of videos this morning, she added: "Don't you think it's funny that when I was open in November, the police, Council came and their only issue was that I was open whilst in a lockdown.

"Never once said anything to me about masks, never brought me any masks, never brought me a visor, never brought me any Government guidance.

"Now we're open, and we're allowed to open, the police have been telling me I'm putting people's lives in danger, the Council have been, with masks, leaving them on the doorstep and that they'll be back."

After a large sigh, she added: "I just can't get a break."

Earlier this week, she told her Instagram followers that she doesn't wear a mask or any PPE "because they don't work, do they?"

she added: "Otherwise we wouldn't be in lockdown every frigging few months."

A Kirklees Council spokesperson today: “It’s great news that more local businesses and venues were able to reopen this week. It’s thanks to the hard work of local people in following the restrictions in place to keep us all safe, and to the more than 200,000 people in Kirklees who have now had at least their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

“We’re working really hard to help businesses reopen in the safest way possible and as part of this support, we have provided tailored PPE packs to local companies to help prevent the spread of the virus.

“Our numbers are heading in the right direction, but we have to remember that Covid-19 is still spreading in our communities. With more and more restrictions now lifting, it’s crucial we all continue to play our part in preventing the spread of the virus so Kirklees can continue to follow the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown restrictions.

“We make no apologies for putting the health and safety of residents first. PPE is a really important line of defence against the virus and could potentially save someone’s life. Not wearing it when necessary is selfish and irresponsible.

"Where we have to, we will work with police to take action against any business not using PPE.

“We are currently awaiting a court date, after submitting a prosecution case against Quinn for non-payment of fines after she repeatedly breached Covid-19 restrictions by opening and trading during lockdown.

“It’s still vital that we follow all the guidance in place to keep each other safe. Thankfully, the vast majority of businesses and residents are doing this, and we will take action against those who don’t.”
