BARCLAYS Bank is planning to install a free cash machine in Manningham, despite closing the local branch there last year.

The banking giant announced that it would be shutting its branch on Carlisle Street - opposite Manningham Library, last Summer.

The closure led to the removal of two ATMs attached to the building - the only free to use cash machines in the area.

But Barclays has now revealed that it will be installing a street facing cash machine at the site.

A planning application submitted to Bradford Council for a new ATM says: "(Barclays is) looking to future proof 24-hour cash for the local area by providing ATM machine accessible from the pavement as a valuable improvement to the area.

"There are very few ATMs in the area and the majority are charging with the closest free ATM over half a mile away.

"Allowing people to have access to cash is beneficial. This will allow people to spend more conveniently in the area, giving them an extra reason stay local for amenities and socialising as well as giving easy access to cash to businesspeople working in the area. "Barclays PLC sees that bringing back an ATM machine, which was previously removed, which is clearly visible will ensure that users can confidentially access cash."

A decision on the planning application is expected in late May.
