A NHS junior doctor who works at the Bradford Royal Infirmary has broken a record by gaining the most votes from the public in a heat to win a place in the Miss England final.

Saskia Faugel, a 25-year-old doctor who lives in Todmorden but works at BRI, received over 27,000 votes on the Miss England App.

This is the most votes any one person has received since the contest went digital and launched its App last November. The app is free with a free vote for each download.

The contest usually holds live heats across the country, but due to the venues being closed and the pandemic during the last year the contest went digital.

Twenty women from across the country competed in the heat during March and April.

The contestants were invited to submit three videos of themselves, an introduction, a catwalk and a talent video for the judges lasting around a minute long.

Saskia also sent in images of herself at work wearing PPE and showed off her skills of solving a Rubik cube in 6.12 minutes.

Usually, contestants who reach the top six in the public vote on the app go forward to a Zoom interview, but judges are already so impressed with Saskia's achievements and her work as a doctor and carer for her 92-year-old grandma, who suffers with Alzeihmer's Disease, they have now offered Saskia a place in the Miss England National final.

She will have a glamorous photoshoot and makeover at Flawless Photography Studios in Leeds this week now restrictions have been lifted.

The Miss England National Final takes place on June 24 at the Heart of England Conference and Events Centre Coventry.

Forty-four women from across England will compete for the Miss England crown and a place in the 70th Miss World, which this year will take place in Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.
