FIREFIGHTERS are damping down this morning after a major fire broke out an industrial premises in Dewsbury.

The fire at a factory building saw the flames and smoke visible from many miles away, including in Wakefield and Huddersfield.

Eight fire engines and two aerial appliances were scrambled to the scene.

Crews from Bradford, Cleckheaton and Rastrick were among those tackling the blaze.

A spokesperson for the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Damping down is in progress at Bretton Park Way, Saville Town, Dewsbury, following last night's fire at an industrial premise.

"The incident has been scaled back and there's still one fire engine and one aerial ladder appliance on the scene.

"Thanks to the local community and our partner agencies for their support as we tackled this incident."

 

Residents in part of West Yorkshire are being advised to keep their windows shut tonight after an intense fire sent plumes of smoke billowing across their neighbourhood.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews are in attendance at a large fire at Bretton Park Way, Saville Town, Dewsbury.

"Due to the amount of smoke, residents in the local area are advised to keep windows and doors shut. Please avoid travelling through this area."
