PLANS to build houses on a site in Thornton have been approved, after the properties were re-designed to make them more "modest."

An outline application to build a pair of semi detached houses on Hill Top Road, a site that used to be home to several private garages, was approved by Bradford Council in 2018.

But a more detailed application, including the scale and design of the homes, was refused last year, with officers saying there was not enough space for cars on the site, and that the homes would not "sit comfortably within this setting and respect the nearby grade II listed buildings."

The site was re-designed, and a new application submitted by Brian Willmore earlier this year.

That scheme has now been approved, despite seven objections to the application.

Officers said: "The scheme has been notably improved.

"The two dwellings proposed are more modest in scale and have an appearance not at odds with the character of the locality."
