IT may well be spring - but try telling that to the weather.

Police have reprted snow so deep that some Yorkshire roads have become almost impassable.

On the North York Moors there were multiple reports of cars stuck.

North Yorkshire Police tweeted yesterday that drivers should avoid Saltersgate Bank, a steep stretch of the A169 Pickering to Whitby road, where traffic had rolled to a halt.

Later in an update, police tweeted that gritters were en route to the area and traffic could proceed with care.

The cold snap is set to continue into the coming week.

The Met Office said wintry showers will mostly die out through this evening but, with some long clear spells developing, a widespread frost will develop overnight.

The minimum temperature in Bradford is likely to reach a distinctly chilly -3 °C.

Overnight frosts are forecast for the rest of the week before temperatures start to recover.
