THE Duke of Edinburgh, who has died at the age of 99, visited the Bradford district many times over the years before officially retiring from public engagements in 2017.

He was the longest-serving consort in British history and was married to the Queen for more than 70 years, dedicating decades of his life to royal duty.

He was a man of duty who gave up his life for Her Majesty and to serve her as Prince Consort. He served the British public and the Commonwealth & will be sorely missed. You left us too soon Sir, I looked forward to hearing your comments after you received an official birthday card in June (I shared your birthday, though not your age) but sadly it is not to be... My messageI remember meeting the Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh at the opening of Buckmore Park, Chatham, Kent, as a 13yr old Army Cadet of The Queens 1st Batt. Kent ACF, in charge of a guard of honour. He and the Prince Charles stopped and spoke with me at some length. He was a great ambassador or British values and had keen sense of humour. My wife and I send our sincere condolences to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Royal Family at their very sad loss.
