PUBS across the Bradford district are preparing their outdoor spaces ahead of pulling their first pints in months next Monday.

Punters will be able to go for a drink outdoors at venues across Bradford for the first time in months as part of the further relaxation of the lockdown restrictions.

One such bar is Q Gardens in Odsal, which will be open from noon on Monday.

The Stadium Road venue, next door to Odsal Stadium, will run with a capacity of 200 to 250 people at a time, with demand already high.

The bar's car park has been converted into a temporary beer garden as they make the most of the space available to them.

Free masks will be given out to customers who need them, hand sanitisers will be available to use and staff will have a lateral flow test before their shifts.

Sean Lowe, co-manager, said: "It's been a very stressful time with different restrictions changing.

"We're very much looking forward to welcoming people through the doors.

"We set up a table booking system within three hours.

We're nearly fully booked for three days next week and have had to rejig things for the weekend

Meanwhile, the Marquis of Granby pub in Riddlesden will also reopen to customers at noon next Monday.

The Hospital Road pub has increased its number of outdoor tables available to maintain social distancing and built an outdoor barbecue area and an outdoor bar.

It will also again be using an order at the table sticker service, where customers just need to use their smartphone at their table.

Sticky, a tech start-up that makes it possible for anyone with a smartphone to order without downloading an extra app and pay by just tapping a sticker, worked with pubs and restaurants on their Super Saturday opening last year to help staff and guests remain Covid-secure.

During their forced closure due to lockdown, the pub stayed open for takeaway food on Saturday nights and Sundays and set up a Go Fund Me page which raised more than £1,000 to help the venue through the difficult financial times.

Simon Hopla, pub owner, said: "It's brilliant to be reopening. It's been tough on everybody.

"It will be good to see our customers and get our local community spirit back, that's centred around the pub.

"We have a marquee to put outside as well."

Meanwhile, two Wetherspoons pubs in the Bradford district will re-open their beer gardens from Monday, April 12.

The pubs are The Turls Green in Centenary Square, Bradford, as well as The Obediah Brooke in Bradford Road, Cleckheaton and The Bowling Green in Otley.

The pubs will be open from 9am to 9pm (Sunday to Thursday inclusive) and 9am to 10pm (Friday and Saturday), although some have restrictions on closing times and in those cases will close earlier.

They will offer a slightly reduced menu, to include breakfast, burgers, pizza, deli deals, fish and chips and British classics. Food will be available from 9am to 8pm seven days a week.

Customers will be able to order and pay through the Wetherspoon app, however, staff will be able to take orders and payment at the table from those who don’t have the app.

The pubs will not be operating a booking system.

Test and trace will be in operation and hand sanitisers will be available.
