A FISH and chip shop owner said their store followed all the Government guidelines, but "couldn't control" the queue for its grand opening.

Royal Fish & Chips, in Great Horton Road, opened up to the public yesterday.

The chippie was offering a special deal for its first day - half price fish and chips.

This brought a crowd of people to the store, who wanted to take advantage of the offer.

But a member of the public - who wished to remain anonymous - raised concerns about the queue outside the chippie, claiming there was "no social distancing whatsoever".

A picture sent by the individual shows people waiting in a line outside the fish and chip shop.

The owner of the shop said they followed all the health and safety guidelines, but could not control what was going on in the queue.

They said: "We had signboards outside with the Government guidelines on, the mask ones, social distancing ones, health and safety.

"There was a member of staff at the door to control people coming in, with a max of three customers at a time.

"The queue we couldn't control, because it's outside of the shop."
