A MAN had his tools stolen from his van in a supermarket car park, when he went to get a sandwich for his lunch.

West Yorkshire Police was called yesterday to a report of a theft from a van at the car park for the Morrison's in Five Lane Ends.

Officers discovered that some tools had been stolen from the van, which belongs to Andrew Westby, and was parked outside the supermarket near the bus stops in the car park.

Mr Westby had only been in the shop for 10 minutes to get a sandwich for his lunch when the theft happened, just after midday.

Charlotte Westby - Mr Westby's wife - said her husband is one of the most "honest and hardworking" men she knows.

She described the suspects as "disgusting" and revealed they took every last bit of equipment from the van.

She said: "They have stolen all his tools.

"They have literally taken everything, not even leaving him with a screwdriver.

"He is one of the most honest hardworking men I know.

"It’s disgusting he can’t go into a busy supermarket in broad daylight to get a sandwich for his dinner.

"He was literally 10 mins and the thieves have taken everything and gone."

Mrs Westby wants to raise awareness about the situation so people know to be vigilant and also to try get the tools back.

The list of stolen tools includes:

  • Milwaukee m18 18v twin set
  • Milwaukee m18 18v hammer drill
  • Milwaukee m18 radio
  • Stanley tool bag full of rothenburger and wera screw driver tools
  • Gerberit crimper 110v with 42mm 54mm 76mm Jaws

Mrs Westby said: "A few on social media have come forward saying the same has happened to them in the same car park.

"So definitely need to make people more aware and to be vigilant."

Police have issued an appeal following the theft.
