A HUSBAND and wife from Cottingley have set up an egg hunt running across the Easter weekend to raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust, after the former's brother was recently diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

In total, Hayley and Luke Moorhouse have already raised over £1,000 for the charity, sponsoring the Leeds Children's Hospital ward which supports Lewis Mangham.

The 16-year-old was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary in the late evening of February 10.

By 3.30am the next day, Lewis was sadly informed he had the rare form of cancer.

Hayley went on to add: "By 4pm on that Thursday afternoon, he was on the Teenage Cancer Trust Ward in Leeds. We cannot fault them, they have been absolutely amazing with him.

"They were so quick, so that is why we want to fundraise for them.

"The Teenage Cancer Trust don’t fund medical things on the ward, they fund things like; TVs, games consoles, and activities to keep teenagers busy while they are in long-term treatment."

Over 150 children are taking part in the hunt, organised through the pair's business, Blue Dragon Designs, from Good Friday to Easter Monday.

32 houses around the Cottingley area are involved with them split up into two routes for social distancing purposes.

There is a range of clues taking each child to a final point where they will receive a personalised Easter Egg gift.

"We started fundraising a day after he was diagnosed," Hayley said.

"At current count, we have raised over £1,100. Quite a chunk of it is from the Easter egg hunt.

"Locally, I am known as the crazy lady who does silly things.

"Throughout the last lockdown, we painted windows and did a paper egg hunt, so this is taking it a step further.

"One route is about 1.2 miles. It will take between 60-90 minutes to take part in, but it is over four days.

"£2 is the suggested minimum donation and we have raised £881 (at time of writing).

"The children will be getting a hamper which is made up of an Easter egg, a couple of craft activities and little extras.

"Local people and businesses have also helped us with eggs and raffle prizes. Their support has been fantastic to raise so much in such a small space of time.

"We have to say a huge thanks to Bingley Fencing, Lidl Bingley, and Morrison’s Victoria for their donations of Easter eggs.

"It (the event) has brought a lot of hope. With the restrictions somewhat lifted, several families will be meeting back up again for the first time since Christmas to do the egg hunt."

There will be a collection bucket during the event. You can make a donation online by following this link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/teamlewiscottingleyegghunt
