POLICE have issued an appeal after a kestrel was shot and killed in the middle of a village.
The protected bird was shot at the junction of Leeds Road and Park Lane in Allerton Bywater at some point two weeks ago by unknown suspects.
The kestrel died.
It is illegal to intentionally kill or injure kestrels, or any wild birds, under Section 1 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981.
The bird's nests and eggs are also protected by the act.
West Yorkshire Police is asking any witnesses, or anyone with information that might help its investigation, to come forward.
