A VIETNAMESE man caught tending a £182,000 “wholesale” cannabis farm in Bradford had his case adjourned because he may have been trafficked into the country.

Tien Ho “did not even know he was in Bradford” when he was found hiding behind a door at the five-room drug factory on the city’s Percival Street, prosecutor Syam Soni said.

Ho, 32, of no fixed address, was due to be sentenced after he pleaded guilty to production of cannabis but Recorder Darren Preston adjourned the case until May 6 for a full probation report.

Ho, who is on remand in Leeds Prison, came to the United Kingdom in the back of a lorrry, Bradford Crown Court heard.

He was arrested when the police turned up at the address on January 7 with a warrant.

There were 387 cannabis plants at the house with fans, lights and other growing equipment.

Mr Soni said: “The operation was a wholesale production of cannabis” with a potential yield of at least 2.l kilos worth a minimum of £182,000.

Ho told the police, with the help of an interpreter, that he was homeless and had been at the house for three months. He never went outside but was provided with provisions.

Mr Soni said Ho had attempted to claim asylum in 2016 but absconded the following year so the claim was withdrawn.

There were reasonable grounds to believe he had been trafficked into the country.

Ho’s barrister, Frances Pencheon, asked for an adjournment if there was a possibly of a non-custodial sentence.

He was remanded back into custody until the next hearing.
