A BRADFORD couple are celebrating their platinum wedding today.

Raymond and Jean Hartley, aged 95 and 90, married at St Margaret’s Church, Thornbury, on March 26, 1951, after meeting through Bradford Cycling Club, where Raymond was the treasurer.

On their special day, Raymond's brother, Jack, was his best man, and the matron-of-honour was Joan, his twin sister.

Jean's brother, Edward, gave her away.

Jean attended secretarial college and did secretarial work until her retirement from the fire service, while Raymond, who was in the Fleet Air Arm in World War Two, worked as a textile engineer.

They have two children, Ian and Janet, six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In their retirement, they enjoyed cruises and holidays, while Raymond also had an interest in photography.

Raymond is currently being looked after by staff at Woodward care home, while Jean lives in Cullingworth.
