PLANS to build a drive thru restaurant on the site of a former pub have been approved by Bradford Council.

The Bradford Arms on Bowling Back Land was recently demolished after years of standing derelict.

Late last year a planning application to open a restaurant, constructed from a shipping container covered in cladding, on the site was submitted to Bradford Council.

Now the application, by Ikraam Hussain, has been approved.

The pub was located between terraced houses and industrial units, and there had been calls to demolish the empty building for years over concerns it was attracting crime and anti social behaviour.

Retrospective plan for shipping container cafes on car park is refused

Approving the business, planning officers said: "Given the site is currently derelict and not in any use, it is considered the introduction of a well-designed structure and bringing the site back into use would represent an improvement to the environment."

The container will be clad, and planning officers added: "It is considered that the shipping container will have a high quality design and appearance.

"This is due to the use of appropriate materials and the overall modest size and appropriate design of the container. It is also considered that the introduction of a well-designed structure on this site represents a significant visual improvement on the existing situation, as the site is derelict and empty."

One condition of the application is that the restaurant can only open between 8am and 11pm.
