PLANS to turn a 19th century coach house in Bradford city centre into a restaurant have been refused.

Concerns over noise and the impact on a city Conservation Area were among the reasons planning officers gave for refusing an application for the property on Wilton Street, off Morley Street.

The unit, in the Little Horton Lane Conservation Area, has previously been used as a restaurant, but is currently classed as a storage building.

An application by R W Nazir to turn the unit into a restaurant that would open until midnight, and see a first floor terrace seating area built to the front, has been refused this week.

Planning officers said a new business in the area would be welcomed, but raised concerns about aspects of the restaurant plan.

Restaurant plan for 'dilapidated' former pub on White Abbey Road approved

They said an outdoor area of a restaurant open until midnight would cause disturbance for people living near the unit.

Officers said: "There is particular concerns in relation to noise omitted at unsociable hours from the proposed outdoor decking area and terrace area. The plans do not demonstrate any physical barriers to protect the residents from 'outside noise' from patrons, shouting etc."

They also pointed out that the outdoor area would be next to office space - and diners could create noise nuisance for office workers, as well as overlook staff.

And heritage officers said: "The proposed extension to the front elevation will result in an incongruous feature."
