AN Eccleshill woman has hit out at police over their handling of an incident at the weekend.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, told the T&A: "I seen someone looking through my back garden window at just before 6.30am on Saturday, and when I looked back at them, they didn't run off.

"It was really, really scary as I was home alone at the time.

"I rang the police but they said it not an emergency. I complained and then the police called me over seven hours later and then sent someone out two hours after that.

"I think it's just wrong and should have been handled differently, particularly at a time they should be helping women."

However, police officers were patrolling the area at the time looking for a group of males, but they also said that no offence was committed.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police were called on Saturday morning to reports of a male in the garden of a property in Eccleshill.

"At the time of the incident, officers were out patrolling in the area and had sighted a group of males who were evading the police.

"Officers visited the lady who reported the incident, later on the same day, to speak to her and take a full account.

"It was deemed that no offences had been committed and no damage to the property which was fully explained to the lady."
