FROM derelict industrial sites to Green Belt fields, 36 sites in the North West of Bradford features in the draft Local Plan.

The plan sets out where houses and other developments should, and should not be built between now and 2038.

The document, out to consultation until Wednesday, has allocated that 2,350 homes be built in the Bradford North West area - which includes Heaton, Manningham, Toller, Girlington, Allerton, the northern part of Clayton and Fairweather Green and a small part of Shipley.

It also includes some of the most deprived areas in the UK.

The Local Plan sets out how Bradford can deliver its housing targets, currently around 1,700 new homes per year, or over 30,000 homes over the length of the local plan.

Hundreds of possible housing sites proposed as Bradford plans for next 15-20 years

In this area of the city the plan allocates housing on derelict inner city sites, open fields and through the conversion of listed mill buildings.

The allocated housing sites include 16 sites which are brownfield and 14 are predominantly greenfield. Six sites lie within the current Green Belt - areas with the highest protection.

Around 850 new homes have been allocated for the Manningham area.

Potential housing sites in the area include the former Drummond's Mill site - which has been vacant since the mill was destroyed in a huge fire in 2016.

The draft plan says around 130 homes could be built on the site over the next decade, and the land is described as "an important regeneration opportunity."

Which city centre sites have been allocated for housing in Bradford's Local Plan?

A site off Snowdon Street near the city centre has been allocated for 229 homes - despite the fact that planning permission was recently granted for a car showroom on the land.

The former Lund Humphries site on Priestman Street - a derelict former factory site, has been allocated for a redevelopment of up to 60 homes.

Whetley Mills, a sprawling, part derelict, listed mill building on Thornton Road, is another site included on the plans. It says the site could be used to provide 250 homes in a development that "retains and conserves existing listed features."

And 43 homes have been allocated to a former reservoir site at the junction of Carlisle Road and Toller Lane.

An area of land at Patent Street, in the shadow of Lister Mill, could be used to provide up to 75 homes, while another 50 could be created in vacant parts of the mill site.

A 9 hole golf course off Bingley Road/Long Lane in Heaton is one of the Green Belt sites included on the list. The plan says the site could be used to deliver 300 homes within 15 years.

Council owned Haworth Road Playing Fields is another Heaton site included - allocated for up to 80 homes, although the draft plan says some of the site should be retained as public play space.

The former University of Bradford Heaton Mount site, near Lister Park, is earmarked for 195 homes. However, with the site being in a Conservation Area, and containing numerous listed buildings, the plan says any development would need to be "a high quality exemplar scheme."

Bid to extend Local Plan consultation into the Summer fails

Allerton Mills on Allerton Road is listed in the plan as an "underused mill" that could be converted into around 200 homes.

Land at Acacia Drive in Sandy Lane is one Green Belt site listed in the draft plan for the area - with 100 homes allocated to the land.

Another Green Belt site in Sandy Lane, off Wilsden Road/West Avenue, is allocated for 22 homes.

High Ash Farm off Allerton Road, Allerton is another - earmarked for 68 homes.

Fields off Prune Park Lane - another Green Belt site, could see 160 houses built within the next 10 years.

And land at Millmoor Close in Heaton is a Green Belt site that could deliver 58 homes, according to the plan.

The plan also details infrastructure improvements in the area.

Bradford Council has already announced plans to reconfigure Manningham Lane, diverting cars and HGVs onto Canal Road to make Manningham Lane more focused on public transport, walking and cycling.

And the document also reveals that work is underway to add new bus priority measures on White Abbey Road, Toller Lane and Heights Lane.
