A "SMALL NUMBER" of staff from the West Yorkshire Police contact centre are having to isolate after testing positive for the Covid-19 virus.
The force confirmed today that there have been some cases of coronavirus at its contact function, but it is unclear whether the virus was passed between the individuals while they were at work.
The staff members are following Public Health Guidance and isolating.
Police have moved to reassure people that there are "robust contingency plans" in place to ensure the contact centre remains in place to help the public.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "West Yorkshire Police can confirm that a small number of staff from our contact function are isolating as per Public Health Guidance.
"At this time, it is unclear if/how many of these cases are related.
"We have a number of measures in place to prevent infection or the spread of the virus in the context of policing.
"Clearly absences in any area of business is a challenge but we can reassure the public that we have robust contingency plans in place and we remain available to help the public."
